Snow in St. George?

The other day it actually snowed here in St. George. I was rather shocked as I looked out the window and saw white stuff falling from the sky. I figured to would stop within minutes, but it snowed for maybe an hour. It was exciting, mostly because it melted just as fast. Addie thought it was so fun she ran outside with no shoes or coat. Once I properly dressed her with shoes and a coat we went back outside, but only for a few minutes. The wind was blowing and it was cold. It was fun to play in the dusting of snow at least for a little bit. We are glad the sun is back out, but we wish it would warm up soon.

Tub Time

The other day Andrew was running water for Addie's bath. She was standing next to the tub watching, but could not contain her excitement to get in the tub. Andrew was busy testing the water when the next thing he knew Addie had climbed into the tub, clothes and all. She was so proud of herself and just started playing with her toys. Needless to say we keep the bathroom door shut all the time or I think Addie would just play in the tub all day long.

No More Toys

I've decided Addie doesn't care about big fancy toys, all she wants is a box with some packaging peanuts. The other day she found a box full of peanuts and she was entertained for hours. Addie enjoyed dumping them out on the floor, traisping them all over the house, and sitting in the box. It's the most fun we have had in days, oh how we can't wait for January to end.

Little Miss Independent

For breakfast I feed Addie a yogurt and then she eats a banana on her own. Yesterday she decided it was time for her to feed herself the yogurt. I have been teaching her to stab food with a fork and feed herself so she knows what to do, but usually she lets me get the food ready and then hand her the utensil. I gave her the spoon with the yogurt and she put it in her mouth, but when I went to take the spoon back she would not give it up for anything. Addie proceeded to cry her eyes out until I handed her the yogurt container, she stopped crying immediately. She then dipped the spoon in, got some yogurt, and put the spoon in her mouth. It was fun to watch her and she wasn't too bad, although the pictures may show otherwise.

Gingerbread House Destruction

Here is a video of our gingerbread house as we blew it up with firecrackers on New Year's Eve. It was much louder in person!

War Wounds

Addie is finally learning to walk on her own. She will take a few steps on her own and then lose her balance and fall over. It is really fun to watch her progress. Yesterday at church we were in the foyer, because she is impossible to keep still. With all of the room she went to town on practicing her walking skills. There was a group of us cheering her on, quietly of course. Addie was on her longest run yet on her way to the glass doors when she lost her balance and went face first into the door frame. When I picked her she had a few scratches on her face, so I thought oh not too bad. She was crying hard though and a few seconds later here came the blood. She has two cuts below her eye, but she was tough and wanted to get down and play some more. I had to document her first of many, I'm sure, war wounds.

Happy New Year

We had a fun New Year's Eve party with some friends. We decided to try and keep a Sutherland family tradition alive by blowing up our gingerbread house at midnight. Andrew had some leftover firecrackers from a few years ago and so we set it all up in our little backyard at midnight. The firecrackers were so loud, but it was funny. Our neighbor behind us did not think so, however, as he came out and asked "isn't it a little late for that kind of noise?" (the city fireworks were louder) and Andrew replied, "it's the New Year". We then moved the rest of the blowing up to our front yard so we could tick off the rest of our neighbors. Here are some before and after pictures of the house.
